Energyear 2024: Neoenergia argues that the electrification of the economy will boost energy transition

2/2/24

In a lecture, the executive director of Renewables at Neoenergia, Laura Porto, believes that expanding the use of electricity by clean sources in production processes is the most efficient path to sustainable development in the country

São Paulo, February 2, 2024

The electrification of the economy and the consequent decarbonization of production processes will boost the energy market from clean sources towards a just and socially responsible energy transition. For Neoenergia's executive director of Renewables, Laura Porto, this is the most efficient way for the country to move forward with sustainable development and reduce CO2 emissions. The executive participated this week in the Energyear 2024 event, which brought together several specialists from the energy sector in São Paulo.

Laura Porto noted that the opening of the energy market will offer a great opportunity to expand the use of renewable energy.

“Our commitment is to offer customers high value-added services for the benefit of decarbonization. Innovations and sustainable solutions are urgent. After all, climate change presents itself as an unprecedented challenge ,” said the executive.

In this sense, she notes that the energy use of green hydrogen emerges as an effective alternative to help decarbonize sectors that are difficult to decarbonize. In her analysis, the executive pointed out that technology will play a fundamental role in this process, because in addition to promoting more sustainable processes, the entry of green hydrogen into the production chain could also reposition the Brazilian industry internationally.

She also recalled that “new technological routes such as green hydrogen, offshore wind generation, hybrid projects using battery energy storage systems (BESS) and reversible power plants have great potential to leverage local development, reducing social and territorial inequalities in Brazil,” concluded Laura Porto.
