The Town 2023: Afrocity drives Neoenergia's movement for decarbonization

9/8/23

Protagonist of the #PelaDescarbonização campaign,

brazilian band brings energy to the festival

Rio de Janeiro, September 8, 2023

Protagonist of Neoenergia's #PelaDescarbonização campaign, the band Afrocity performed this Thursday on the Factory stage of The Town 2023. An official supporter of the festival, the company is leading the movement to promote a series of actions that help reduce carbon emissions from the music industry and, above all, to raise awareness among the thousands of young people who will be gathered at the largest music, culture and art festival in São Paulo.

In a festival that values sustainability on the most diverse fronts of action, music becomes an instrument for raising awareness and connecting with the public. In this sense, Afrocity appropriates talent and inspiration and is carrying a message in the digital environment in favor of more sustainable behavior. The #PelaDesarbonização campaign is a success and on NeoEnergia's social media. The band is also present in content on NeoEnergia's digital platforms.

“We created a manifesto in the form of a song to talk about the importance of decarbonizing society. That's the energy we're going to bring to everyone,” said vocalist José Macedo.

In addition, Neoenergia is present at The Town 2023 with energy solutions that make the event even more sustainable. Neoenergia supplied solar-powered light poles and electric trolleys that are used by the organization.

Change of light bulbs

As a symbolic act to raise public awareness, for each person present at The Town, Neoenergia will exchange a conventional lamp for an LED in schools, hospitals, non-profit institutions and low-income communities in the concession areas where the company operates, in the distribution of energy in Brazil. According to public estimates, The Town must provide for the exchange of up to 500 thousand lamps. The initiative is part of the Energy Efficiency Program, regulated by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL). The idea is to use the replacement of lamps as a tool for awareness and education.

The purpose of replacing inefficient lamps with models, which save up to 40% compared to compact fluorescent lamps (15W), is intended to avoid wasting energy and, consequently, to contribute to sustainability by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Partnership

Neoenergia will also join Rock in Rio, which will take place next year in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

The partnership with Rock World, the festival organizer, was announced in July with the objective of promoting solutions for the decarbonization of events that also serve the music industry.

“ We want to lead the energy transition in Brazil. To this end, it is essential to engage future generations and expand our communication of sustainable values and attributes as a way of engaging and inspiring society. By signing a commitment with an international reference partner such as Rock World, with The Town and Rock in Rio, Neoenergia reinforces its credibility and advances its strategy of consolidating itself as one of the main leaders in sustainable energy solutions in the country”, said Lorenzo Perales, Marketing director of Neoenergia.
