The Neoenergia Institute releases the 2024 balance sheet, evidencing its commitment to social, cultural and environmental development in the communities where it operates. The institution invested a total of R$ 24 million, an increase of 25% compared to last year, when R$ 18.8 million was invested. The amount was distributed across 69 impact programs and projects that benefited 650,000 people in eight Brazilian states and the Federal District, through the valuation of cultural diversity, climate resilience and the valuation of historical heritage.

Support for the Brazilian interior

Historically, there has been a concentration of resources in capitals and large centers - either for reasons of visibility or the provision of public policies. We believe that the internalization of initiatives is important to contribute to the social development of territories that are not normally covered by this structure, in order to decentralize social investments and support projects that transform the quality of life of people in the interior of our country”, explains Renata Chagas, CEO of the Neoenergia Institute. The executive adds that of the 106 municipalities benefited, in 2024, 94% were not capitals.

Neoenergia's private social investment platform, the Institute supported 424,000 actions based on seven federal and state incentive laws in the states of Bahia, Pará, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, and the Federal District. In all these locations, programs and projects were developed in the areas of art and culture, social action, biodiversity and climate change, training and research, and institutional collaboration. By 2025, the Institute expects to expand its operations to 16 incentive laws and increase the amount invested from projects aimed at health and care for the elderly.

Among the supported initiatives, the 1st Festival of Violeiros and Repentists of the Rural Zone stands out, in the municipality of Currais Novos (RN). The organization was included in the Transforming Energy into Culture Public Notice Program and the Cascudo Chamber of State Cultural Incentive Law, with support from Neoenergia Cosern, the group's distributor in Rio Grande do Norte.

With the financial support offered, we had the opportunity to strengthen rural communities by showing the best of the region through its artistic potential and its customs. In addition, it was possible to spread sociocultural activities related to the development of local and regional popular culture,” says José Alves Pontes, President of the São Sebastião Rural Producers Association.
