Neoenergia delivers another solar plant on Fernando de Noronha Island to supply electric vehicles

Fernando de Noronha won a new solar plant. Neoenergia, in partnership with Lab Noronha, completed the second Green Trail Project plant, an initiative that is expanding electric mobility in the archipelago, with the inclusion of 14 electric vehicles in the Natural Heritage of Humanity, recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco). The two power plants together have a power of 100kWp. This capacity is approximately three times greater than the capacity needed to charge the project vehicles. The surplus will be injected into the distribution network, expanding the use of renewable sources by local consumers .To allow the use of clean energy, even when there is not enough solar generation, an energy storage system with a power of 100 kW/215 kWh has also been implemented. The batteries will be responsible for fueling the vehicles during the night shift .By the end of 2024, the electric vehicles and energy resources used in the project will be analyzed by specialists from the distributor. For this analysis, cars were incorporated into the island's main economic activities, such as the tourist trade, district administration, and Neoenergia's own operation. The information collected will be submitted to viability assessments of the business models and, subsequently, an indicative map will be drawn up for future actions related to electric mobility in Fernando de Noronha. In this sense, the Green Trail will also benefit local entrepreneurs and the public authorities. As of 2030, State Law 16,810/20 prohibits the circulation of cars powered by gasoline, diesel, and ethanol .Ten ecostations have already been installed and two more are being completed at strategic points on the island and made available to all electric cars in the archipelago. There are eight charging points with a power of 22 kW, which allow faster recharging, and another two with a power of 7.4 kW. The last two units support V2G (vehicle-to-grid), which has a bidirectional flow, meaning the vehicle can use the station to recharge or to “return” unused energy, as in possible periods of high grid demand. These stations will be supplied completely with clean energy, supplied by the photovoltaic generation of the two new solar power plants .Sustainability actions are part of Neoenergia's Research, Development and Innovation Program (PDI), regulated by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL), in partnership with the Government of Pernambuco, Renault, WEG, Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), IATI, CPqD, EiON and Incharge. Noronha Sustainable Energy Program The Green Trail project is part of Neoenergia's Noronha Sustainable Energy Program, which provides for a set of actions that bring together sustainable mobility, technological innovation and expansion of non-polluting energy sources. The planning, which focuses on a clean and reliable business model, includes an international agreement with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Some of the initiatives also resulted from a technical cooperation agreement signed between Neoenergia and the State Government, establishing commitments in the areas of energy efficiency, R&D, renewable energy and electric mobility.Neoenergia aims to promote a more sustainable mobility model among its corporate commitments, with the objective of contributing to decarbonization. One of its main initiatives is the Green Corridor, the largest highway in the Northeast, with a length of 1,100 kilometers between Salvador (Bahia) and Natal (Rio Grande do Norte ).All of these initiatives are also in accordance with UN Sustainable Development Goals number 7 (clean and affordable energy), 9 (innovation industry and infrastructure), 11 (sustainable cities and communities) and 17 (partnerships and means of implementation). More Neoenergy in Noronha The Fernando de Noronha archipelago has two more photovoltaic solar power plants installed by Neoenergia. Renewable power plants have an installed capacity of approximately 1 megawatt (MWp). All initiatives are aimed at reducing the dependence on biodiesel generation at the Tubarão Power Plant, currently essential in an isolated system such as Noronha. In order to stimulate the circulation of electric vehicles on the island, since 2015, Neoenergia has had a car powered exclusively by solar energy in Fernando de Noronha. As a result of Neoenergia's Research and Development (R&D) Program, the car is fueled by an ecopot whose roof is composed of photovoltaic panels. |
