Neoenergia opens three substations to expand energy supply in the Northeast

8/1/24

With investments of around R$ 182 million, new substations will benefit more than 300,000 people and promote economic development in the interior of Bahia and Pernambuco

With investments of around R$ 182 million, yesterday (31/7), Neoenergia inaugurated three new substations that will expand the energy supply to another 300,000 people and contribute to the socioeconomic development of municipalities in the interior of Bahia and Pernambuco, concession areas of Neoenergia Coelba (BA) and Neoenergia Pernambuco (PE), respectively.

New substations in Bahia

In Bahia, Neoenergia invested over R$ 155 million in the new Barreiras III and Alto Fêmeas II substations and 80 kilometers of associated 138kV subtransmission lines, which will inject 25 MVA of installed power in the region. More than 250,000 people in four municipalities in western Bahia will be served. The delivery of the substations follows the investment schedule presented by Neoenergia Coelba in April of this year, which foresees the investment of R$ 13.3 billion in structural works by 2027. The projects were built to accompany the socioeconomic growth of western Bahia and to strengthen agribusiness in the region.

“We are carrying out the planned deliveries within the strategic investment plan in Bahia that we presented in April of this year.

The Barreiras III and Alto Fêmeas II substations are part of a plan developed with the productive sectors in the west of the state to ensure that the energy supply is reliable and contributes to the development of the region ,” said Thiago Guth, CEO of Neoenergia Coelba.

The Alto Fêmeas II substation is located in the municipality of São Desidério and has an associated 138kV subtransmission line that is 74 kilometers long. Around 100,000 inhabitants of the municipalities of Barreiras, Luis Eduardo Magalhães, Formosa do Rio Preto and Riachão das Neves will benefit.

The Barreiras III substation, on the other hand, is located in the homonymous municipality and is the third substation installed in the city. It also has an associated 138 kV subtransmission line, which is six kilometers long, and will increase the installed power in the region by 25 MVA, providing more energy for agribusiness and commerce in western Bahia. More than 150,000 people will benefit directly from this new substation.

New substation in Pernambuco

The new Mundaú substation, in Garanhuns, will promote more quality, reliability and continuity in the supply of energy to around 60,000 people who live in the city and in Brejão and São João. In total, more than R$ 27 million was invested

.

With the incorporation of the new structure, the cities of the rugged state of Pernambuco will also be even more prepared to receive new projects from various economic segments, whether large industrial parks or medium-sized companies. This means more infrastructure and financial resources circulating in the economy and a greater generation of jobs

.

The region is carrying out a strategic agricultural activity for the state and will directly benefit from the expansion of the energy supply.

In recent months, we have focused a lot of efforts on improving the electrical system that serves the Milk Basin and the implementation of the Mundaú Substation has further reinforced the reliability of the energy supply, an indispensable input for the growth of the local economy,” said Saulo Cabral, CEO of Neoenergia Pernambuco.

The Mundaú substation is built on an area of approximately 10,000 square meters and is connected to three subtransmission lines. The initial power of the unit is 20 MVA, but with the possibility of reaching 53.2 MVA. The new substation is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and automation, which allows remote monitoring and management of the project, directly from the Integrated Operations Center (COI), in Recife

.

The energization of the unit reduced the length of existing circuits and the number of consumers per circuit, thus ensuring greater operational flexibility in the region with the possibility of transferring loads according to the demand of each location.

The Mundaú substation is the third one delivered this year in Pernambuco. In the last months of February and May, Neoenergia Pernambuco inaugurated the Araripina II substations, in the Sertano do Araripe, and Via Mangue, in Recife. Currently, two more substations are under construction, in Petrolina (Petrolina III), in the Sertano do São Francisco, and Paulista (Maria Farinha),

in Greater Recife.
