Operation Winter: Neoenergia intensifies preventive actions in the distribution areas
Dealerships reinforce maintenance with tree pruning and fire prevention measures
Neoenergia is intensifying preventive work for winter with actions that include tree pruning and anti-burn measures. In the Northeastern states, the season is marked by rains, while in São Paulo, intense heat and lack of rain increase fire risks
.
Neoenergia Elektro, the utility responsible for distributing electricity to part of the cities located in the Central and Western regions of São Paulo, reinforces the importance of special care with the electrical grid and safety measures to prevent accidents related to fires. The Civil Defense has already issued alerts of the increased risk of fires in these locations.
“When flames hit the electrical grid, components such as poles, cables, and insulators can be damaged, interrupting the power supply. When the fire is close to the network, soot and intense heat create conditions to generate a short circuit and, as a consequence, interrupt the supply,” explains Guilherme Mafra, Health and Safety Manager at Neoenergia Elektro.
Winter Operation initiatives are added to the preventive maintenance routine to improve the quality of electricity distribution in concession areas. Among the priorities is the work of pruning trees. The objective is to intensify the activity and avoid possible interruptions due to the proximity of the vegetation to the distribution network. When touching the wiring, the branches can cause a short circuit, interrupt the power supply or, in some cases, break the cables and cause accidents.
At Neoenergia Pernambuco, more than 32,000 prunings are scheduled to take place in the coming weeks in the cities of Recife, Jaboatão, Olinda, Abreu e Lima, Camaragibe, Igarassu, Moreno, São Lourenço da Mata, Paulista and Paudalho. “Tree pruning, when the branches are close to the electrical grid, can only be carried out by specialized technicians using appropriate company techniques,” explains André Tavares, Operations Manager at Neoenergia Pernambuco.
To reduce the risk of accidents with the electrical grid in Rio Grande do Norte, Neoenergia Cosern carried out about 34,300 preventive pruning of trees spread across 105 cities in Potiguares from January to April of this year. With the incidence of rainfall above the historical average in most municipalities, branches and shrubs grew rapidly.
In Bahia, professionals from Neoenergia Coelba inspected more than 40,000 kilometers of the electrical grid in 2024. To ensure greater reliability in the energy supply of the state's concession area , the distributor pruned more than 60,000 vegetation close to power wires .
