Company carried out the installation in more than a thousand customers, allowing access and remote monitoring of the meters

Neoenergia has just modernized the intelligent measurement in Fernando de Noronha. The company has replaced more than 1,000 approved meters with broader features that allow you to meet requests remotely. The process also included the maintenance of the telecommunications system on the island, with equipment specially designed for an accurate management of electrical networks. The initiative is part of the company's investments in smart grids, expanding the concept of DSO, in which the energy distributor becomes a Distribution System Operator, not just the network.

Energy quality and white tariff

In practice, the new network allows access and remote monitoring of voltage and current levels, in addition to events and alarms in case of interruption in the power supply, ensuring more agility in the fulfillment of operational processes in the archipelago.

"We implemented the most modern in the concept of intelligent measurement in the archipelago of Fernando de Noronha, giving more efficiency, agility and reinforcing the quality of the energy supply. Offering better and better services to our customers and anticipating the needs of digitization in the energy transition are the focus of the company", says Carlos Eduardo Ferreira Soares, Superintendent of Development and Application of Neoenergia.

The modernization project is part of the AMI Fernando de Noronha Project, linked to Energia do Futuro (DSO) and was implemented in 2022. Neoenergia Pernambuco mobilized a team from the mainland to install the radio frequency communication (RF) network on the island and four teams for the installation of about 1,000 meters of two-way energy (capable of measuring the input and output of energy), with embedded computational intelligence, in the low voltage customer park.

Energy of the Future Project

Electrical grids are essential to support digitization and the need for distributed decarbonization, generation and storage, electric vehicles, intelligent measurement and automation are elements of the electrical sector of the future. Aligned with the global trend, Neoenergia invests in the transition between being a Distribution Network Operator – DNO – and becoming a Distribution System Operator, called DSO. This change will accelerate the adoption of new technologies and their benefits for the 15.9 million customers of the group's concessionaires – Coelba (BA), Neoenergia Pernambuco (PE), Cosern (RN), Brasília (DF) and Elektro (SP/MS).

The Energy of the Future project, which develops technologies for decarbonization, energy efficiency and digitization of networks in the Fernando de Noronha archipelago, is also underway in the Atibaia region of São Paulo. This is a Brazilian example of this new model in distribution, in which the use of new technologies and distributed generation alter the flow of energy and require more advanced management.
