7/17/24

With Carbon2Nature Brazil, the company will start developing projects for the generation and commercialization of carbon credits

Neoenergia announced this Wednesday (17th) the approval of the creation of a joint venture with the Spanish company Carbon2Nature, a specialist in nature-based solutions (NBS) projects for the generation of carbon credits. Carbon2Nature Brazil reinforces Neoenergia's commitment to sustainable principles to offer

decarbonization solutions.

Carbon2Nature is controlled by the Spanish group Iberdrola, of which Neoenergia is also a part. In Brazil, the new company was founded with the objective of implementing projects for the reforestation of deforested areas, through replanting, forest management, and control and safety monitoring. The rehabilitation and conservation of mangroves in the country is also planned, generating carbon credits and promoting sustainable development. The estimate for the coming years is to capture more than 10 million tons of CO2, considering a tree density of 15 million trees spread over 19 thousand hectares

.

“The investment in Carbon2Nature Brazil is in line with the company's strategy to expand its operations as a provider of decarbonization solutions and to facilitate the energy transition. In addition, we are contributing to achieving our ESG goals,” said Eduardo Capelastegui, CEO

of Neoenergia.

Neoenergia will have a 49% stake in the joint venture, and the company will be controlled by Carbon2Nature with 51%. Carbon2Nature has been active since May last year. In addition to Brazil, the company has projects under development in Spain and is expanding its operations to other countries such as Colombia, Mexico and Chile
