Bahia receives Neoenergia's first project for distributed solar energy generation

9/28/23

A solar power plant with a capacity to generate 3 MW of energy will be built in the Jequitinhonha Valley region

Rio de Janeiro (RJ), 28 de setembro de 2023

Residents and businessmen who work in the Neoenergia concession area in the state of Bahia will be able to purchase energy at a more competitive cost after the group's first solar distributed generation plant comes into operation. The project, with a generation capacity of 3 MW, will be built near the Itapebi Hydroelectric Power Plant, also owned by the company, located in the Jequitinhonha Valley region.

“ This solar distributed generation project in Itapebi aligns perfectly with our business vision focused on energy sustainability. Through this initiative, we will expand our offerings and provide greater efficiency to our future customers. This venture strengthens our group's sustainable objectives, optimizes resource allocation, promotes investments in clean energy, and reinforces the sustainability of our business. At the same time, we will expand our energy portfolio, boosting our position in the market”, says Fernando Torga, manager of Wind and Photovoltaic Promotion at Neoenergia.

In this project, called GD Itapebi, the energy generated will be injected into the local distribution network, benefiting the population and commercial enterprises in the region. Neoenergia has been studying and developing solar power plants for distributed generation, a decentralized approach that integrates the solar plant directly into the customers' distribution network.

With GD Itapebi, Neoenergia inaugurates a new era in the development of sustainable energy in Brazil with an innovative concept of using sites and integrating areas. This model can be applied to other hydroelectric plants in the group.

“The implementation of the plant reinforces its role as a leader in the energy sector. This approach will not only expand our generation capacity, but it will also allow us to optimize the use of natural resources on a locational scale and reduce our carbon footprint, in line with sustainability and ESG goals. Neoenergia is committed to developing solutions that contribute to the preservation of the environment and to the advancement of a low-carbon economy. The deployment of the solar power plant in our hydroelectric power plant reflects our continuous commitment to technological innovation and to the search for opportunities that boost sustainable growth,” says Márcio Manus, manager of Civil Engineering and New Business at

Neoenergia.
