At the Brazilian Climate and Carbon Conference 2024, joint venture reinforces commitment to developing nature-based projects that help preserve biodiversity and combat the climate crisis

Carbon2Nature Brasil - a joint venture between Neoenergia and Iberdrola's Carbon 2Nature - made its debut at a carbon market event, debating key issues on the paths to decarbonization for a sustainable economy with a positive impact on biodiversity and social development. The joint venture is taking part in the Brazilian Climate and Carbon Conference 2024, which ends tomorrow (16) in São Paulo.

Created in July this year, Carbon2Nature Brasil aims to develop nature-based solution projects to generate high-quality carbon credits. The aim is to implement reforestation projects in deforested areas, through replanting and forest management. The company will also invest in projects aimed at rehabilitating and conserving mangroves. The estimate for the coming years is to capture more than 10 million tons ofCO2, considering a tree density of 15 million trees spread over more than 19,000 hectares.

The event is organized by Aliança Brasil NBS - a non-profit association whose aim is to promote the fight against deforestation and forest degradation. When discussing the prospects for the future of the carbon market, Flávia Antunes, COO of Carbon2Nature Brasil, highlighted the differentials of nature-based solutions.

"Carbon2Nature believes in the potential of the Brazilian carbon credit market and has extensive experience in developing projects with the highest levels of rigor and quality. Supporting the initiatives of the Brazil NBS Alliance is perfectly aligned with our goal of making a difference in the world of nature-based solutions.

Carbon2Nature is the result of a joint venture between Neoenergia and Iberdrola, which allows us to take advantage of our extensive and recognized experience in sustainability and renewable energy development," said Flávia Antunes, COO of Carbon2Nature Brazil.

The executive stressed that the investment in Carbon2Nature Brasil is in line with Neoenergia's strategy of expanding its operations as a provider of decarbonization solutions and facilitator of the energy transition in the country.

Carbon2Nature is an Iberdrola company created in 2023 with the main objective of reducing the global carbon footprint by developing nature-based solutions with a high impact on ecosystems and biodiversity. Today it is present in four countries (Spain, Brazil, Mexico and Australia) and has 14 projects in its portfolio, more than 20 in analysis and final negotiations and has absorbed more than 1 million tons ofCO2 with its current projects.
