Neoenergia Institute​ delivers, this Thursday (13), the new cultural lighting of Memorial Chamber Cascudo, located in the historical center of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. This initiative, carried out in a partnership with José Augusto Foundation, is a part of a program aimed at increasing the appreciation of the historic, artistic and cultural heritage of the historical buildings located in states where Neoenergia operates.

The Memorial's new lighting comprises 53 reflectors, using LED lamps to light up Cascudo Statue Chamber and the historic building's façade. The system is fully automated, using sensors to turn on and off the lamps, according to the natural light in the place.

Due to the use of LED lamps and automatic sensors, this new lighting system is expected to generate a 65% saving in the building's energy consumption when compared to the traditional system (using discharge lamps and manually operated).

According to Renata Chagas, Neoenergia Institute Officer, Memorial Chamber Cascudo's selection was carried out together with José Augusto Foundation and considered the national importance of this folklorist born in the state and the building's architectural relevance. "This will be a significant contribution we will grant to Rio Grande do Norte's culture and may represent a new moment to foster the appreciation of Natal's historical center," says Renata.

Luis da Câmara Cascudo's (1898-1986) family, artists, intellectuals, State Government Authorities and representatives of Fundación Iberdrola España will be present in the event.

Within the scope of the same Neoenergia Institute program, other historic buildings in the country have also been lightened​, such as the Forte das Cinco Pontas, in Recife, Pernambuco; Fortaleza da Barra Grande, in Guaruja, São Paulo; and Cruz de Cabrália, in Santa Cruz de Cabrália, Bahia.

ABOUT THE BUILDING

Constructed in 1857 to host the Thesouraria da Fazenda Real (Royal Treasury) during the Empire period, this neoclassical style-building also hosted the Tax Office (1952-1955), and Brazilian Army's headquarters (1955-1977). Since 1987, it hosts Memorial Câmara Cascudo, with the purpose of preserving and disseminating the works of the most important Brazilian folklorist. Luis da Câmara Cascudo's private library is installed in the building, comprising around 10 thousand items.
